Refugees from Pakistan staged protests on Friday against statements made by Congress leaders regarding the implementation of the Citizenship Act, 2019, in close proximity to the party headquarters.
Amidst waving placards and chanting slogans, demonstrators asserted that the Central government’s execution of the CAA aimed to grant them citizenship, viewing it as an empowerment initiative. However, they lamented opposition from political adversaries. Approximately 200 individuals participating in the protest were halted and dispersed upon gathering at Jaisalmer House, where they had intended to march towards Akbar Road.
One protestor highlighted the silence of Congress and INDI Alliance leaders regarding refugees who entered the country illegally. Emphasizing their lawful entry with passports and valid visas, the protestor questioned the rationale behind opposition from these quarters.
Another protestor, estimating a crowd of nearly 400-500 individuals, expressed bewilderment over the opposition to their citizenship claims. They reassured that despite spending several years in the country, they have not posed any harm to anyone.
