The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared that Rajasthan will witness polling in its 25 constituencies across two phases. The first phase will be on April 19, while the second phase will follow on April 26. The results of these elections are scheduled to be announced on June 4.
Phase-wise Distribution of Polls
In the initial phase, constituencies like Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, and others will go to polls. The subsequent phase will cover areas like Ajmer, Nagaur, Pali, and more, totaling 13 seats in southern Rajasthan.
Significant Number of Eligible Voters
A significant number of voters, over 50 million, are eligible to cast their votes in Rajasthan across 51,756 polling stations. Notably, there are over 1.2 million voters above the age of 80.
Improved Technology and Complaint Mechanisms
The state election commissioner, Praveen Gupta, announced that approximately 50% of polling stations will have webcasting systems, a significant increase compared to the previous assembly polls. Additionally, people can register their complaints using the C-Vigil app.
Crackdown on Electoral Malpractices
Gupta revealed that authorities have seized items like freebies, drugs, illicit liquor, and cash totaling ₹280 crore across the state in the last three months. This figure marks a substantial increase from the corresponding period after the 2019 general election.
Political Appeals
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot urged citizens to vote for the Congress party. He highlighted issues such as inflation, rising inequality, unemployment, and political corruption, urging voters to uphold constitutional values.
Appeal for Change
Gehlot emphasized the need for change and justice for all sections of society, urging voters to support the Congress party in the upcoming elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in 24 out of the 25 seats in Rajasthan.
In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, a by-poll for the Bagidora constituency will also be conducted on April 26. This seat was vacated after Congress lawmaker Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya resigned and joined the ruling BJP on February 21.
