The government of Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has taken a significant step towards enhancing security measures in the state. A substantial amount exceeding Rs 23 crore has been approved for the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) to acquire modern weaponry, as announced in a recent press release.
The allocated funds will be utilized to procure a range of state-of-the-art firearms and equipment, including semi-automatic pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, bullet-resistant jackets, helmets, polycarbonate shields, and batons. The emphasis lies on ensuring high quality and practical utility of all items.
In adherence to a government order dated March 14, all procurement activities are mandated to be completed by March 31. Any remaining funds are to be returned to the Treasury, with strict adherence to the approved items without scope for additional purchases.
The Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters holds the responsibility of verifying and approving departmental arrangements concerning the make, model, specifications, and quantities of the proposed equipment, ensuring alignment with functional requirements.
Additionally, in a recent decision, the Yogi government has resolved to establish the sixth Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) battalion in Ayodhya. The UPSSF, established in September 2020, was initially tasked with safeguarding state courts, prominent religious sites, and key establishments.
Since its inception, five battalions were formed and stationed in strategic locations across the state, including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Mathura, and Saharanpur. Furthermore, the inaugural battalion of the UPSSF is currently deployed in the Lucknow Metro, bolstering security in public transportation systems.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and vital installations across Uttar Pradesh. With the infusion of advanced weaponry and strategic deployment of specialized forces, the state aims to fortify its defenses and mitigate potential threats effectively.
