Truecaller, the popular caller ID app, has introduced a groundbreaking feature aimed at combating spam calls. The new AI-powered feature, integrated into the ‘Max’ update, empowers users to effectively eliminate unwanted calls that are not from approved contacts or are identified as spam by Truecaller’s advanced artificial intelligence algorithm.
According to a recent report by TechCrunch, this innovative feature takes a proactive approach by blocking calls deemed as spam by the AI, even if they are not cataloged in Truecaller’s extensive database. Previously, Truecaller primarily relied on its database and user feedback for call blocking decisions.
The newly introduced feature is exclusively available to Truecaller Premium users on Android devices. Unfortunately, Apple’s policies restrict Truecaller and similar caller ID services from directly analyzing and blocking spam calls. Nevertheless, Truecaller’s Vice President of Search, Kunal Dua, expressed optimism, noting that the system’s efficacy is anticipated to improve with ongoing data accumulation regarding spam calls.
To utilize this AI spam-blocking capability:
1. Ensure you have subscribed to Truecaller Premium.
2. Open the Truecaller app and access Settings.
3. Navigate to the Block section.
4. Select the Max option to activate the AI spam-blocking feature.
Truecaller Premium subscription prices in Bharat vary across four tiers: Connect, Assistant, Assistant Family, and Gold. Monthly subscription rates range from ₹179 for the Connect tier to ₹299 for the Assistant Family tier. Yearly subscriptions start at ₹539 for Connect and extend up to ₹5,000 for Gold.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Kunal Dua emphasized Truecaller’s commitment to distinguishing between spam calls and legitimate businesses. He acknowledged that while efforts are made to accurately identify spam, there may be instances where legitimate calls are temporarily blocked.
