Tamilisai Soundararajan, who recently stepped down from her position as the Governor of Telangana, has rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu. The membership card was presented to her by K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP President, at the party’s headquarters ‘Kamalalayam’ in Chennai.
During a press conference, Soundararajan expressed her happiness at returning to work for the BJP despite facing a tough decision to leave her gubernatorial post. She cited Vanathi Srinivasan, a successful woman in politics, as an example and stated that she didn’t regret her decision even though she had access to many facilities as governor. Soundararajan highlighted the challenges she encountered during her tenure in Telangana, having served under four Chief Ministers.

K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP President, emphasized that Soundararajan’s decision to leave her post was not easy but was driven by her desire to contribute to the state and the party. He mentioned the optimism within the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and projected a victory of over 400 seats, indicating Soundararajan’s commitment to BJP’s political objectives.
Annamalai praised Soundararajan’s dedication to the people and the BJP, especially noting her administrative experience. He welcomed her back to the party fold, highlighting her importance in the ongoing alliance and seat-sharing talks in Chennai, where she joined after her resignation as governor.
In response to Soundararajan’s resignation, President Droupadi Murmu accepted it and appointed C P Radhakrishnan, the Governor of Jharkhand, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in addition to his current duties until regular arrangements are made.
Earlier, MK Stalin, the Chief of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), unveiled the party’s candidate list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Alongside the candidate announcement, Stalin released the party’s manifesto and criticized the BJP, alleging that it had caused significant damage to the country over the past decade.
