In a recent update, the popular food delivery and restaurant aggregator Zomato has announced the introduction of a dedicated ‘Pure Vegetarian’ delivery fleet. This move comes in response to feedback from customers who have strict vegetarian dietary preferences. The company aims to cater to these customers who are particular about how their food is prepared and handled.
Zomato’s ‘Pure Veg’ delivery mode will feature a curated selection of restaurants that exclusively serve vegetarian food. This segment will exclude all restaurants offering non-vegetarian options. Founder Deepinder Goyal emphasized that orders from non-vegetarian restaurants will never be delivered through the green delivery boxes designated for the ‘Pure Veg’ fleet.
Despite efforts to maintain hygiene standards, instances of food spilling into delivery boxes can occur. This can lead to the smell of previous orders affecting subsequent ones. To address this concern, Zomato has decided to separate the fleet for vegetarian orders to ensure the integrity of pure vegetarian meals.
Initially, there were plans for the ‘Pure Vegetarian’ fleet to don green uniforms. However, after reconsideration, Zomato decided that all delivery partners, both regular and vegetarian fleet, will wear the company’s trademark red uniforms. This decision aims to prevent any confusion or misidentification of delivery partners, particularly during special days when certain residential areas may impose restrictions.
Goyal expressed understanding towards concerns raised by some societies and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) regarding the entry of delivery partners. Zomato pledges to work with these entities to address any issues and ensure the smooth operation of its services. The company emphasizes its commitment to social responsibility and promises to roll back any changes if significant negative repercussions arise.
The announcement of the ‘Pure Veg’ fleet has received an overwhelmingly positive response from customers, including those with non-vegetarian dietary preferences. Goyal reiterated that the feature serves a specific dietary preference and does not discriminate based on religion or caste.
To kickstart the launch of the ‘Pure Vegetarian’ fleet, Deepinder Goyal himself participated in delivering some pure vegetarian orders alongside delivery partners. The rollout of this feature will occur gradually across the country over the next few weeks.
Additionally, Zomato plans to introduce more specialized fleets to cater to diverse customer needs. One such fleet will focus on cake delivery, equipped with hydraulic balancers to prevent cakes from getting smudged during transportation. These initiatives reflect Zomato’s commitment to enhancing customer experience and addressing specific requirements within the food delivery ecosystem.
