In a recent announcement by Bharat’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Soumendu Bagchi has been appointed as the next Ambassador of Bharat to the Republic of Iraq. Bagchi, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer belonging to the 1993 batch, currently serves as the Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). The MEA disclosed the appointment in an official release on Monday, confirming that Bagchi is set to assume his new role shortly.

Bagchi’s appointment marks a significant diplomatic move as he prepares to represent Bharat’s  interests in Iraq. With his extensive experience in foreign affairs and his tenure at ICWA, Bagchi is expected to contribute significantly to bilateral relations between India and Iraq. His appointment underscores India’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with nations in the Middle East region.

Meanwhile, Abhilasha Joshi, another seasoned IFS officer from the 1995 batch, has been selected as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Chile. Joshi, currently serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, will soon embark on her diplomatic assignment to Chile. The MEA’s release confirmed Joshi’s appointment, highlighting her imminent role in furthering India’s diplomatic engagements in South America.

Joshi’s appointment reflects Bharat’s proactive approach to enhancing its presence and partnerships across diverse geographical regions. As she prepares to assume her duties in Chile, Joshi is poised to strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation between Bharat and Chile. Her wealth of experience in diplomacy and international relations equips her well for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Both Bagchi and Joshi’s appointments underscore India’s commitment to deploying seasoned diplomats to advance its diplomatic objectives on the global stage. With their expertise and dedication, they are expected to play pivotal roles in deepening India’s bilateral relations with Iraq and Chile, respectively. As they prepare to take up their new assignments, their contributions are anticipated to further elevate India’s standing in the international arena.
