The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam is all set for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma leading the charge. Sarma has outlined ambitious plans to participate in over 100 road shows, rallies, and meetings across all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state during the party’s campaign.
In an interview with ANI on Saturday, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson Pabitra Margherita expressed confidence in the party’s preparations. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their main star campaigner, emphasizing that from the booth-level president to Pristha Pramukh, everyone is considered a star campaigner for the BJP.
Margherita pointed out the developmental strides witnessed by Assam and the North East since Modi assumed office in 2014. He cited improvements in connectivity, tourism, and education, attributing the decline in insurgency and the establishment of a peaceful environment to the BJP’s governance.
Furthermore, Margherita emphasized the increase in central allocation to Assam and the North East under Modi’s leadership. He contrasted Modi’s frequent visits to Assam, numbering more than 50, with former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s relatively infrequent trips to the state during his tenure.
Margherita criticized the Congress party for its delayed candidate announcement for the Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency, asserting that the BJP and its ally parties are already active on the ground. He boldly predicted that the BJP and its allies would secure victory in 13 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.
As the political landscape heats up in Assam ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s rigorous campaigning and confidence in its leadership signal a fiercely contested electoral battle in the state. With Sarma’s extensive itinerary and Modi’s stature as the star campaigner, the BJP aims to solidify its position and secure a significant mandate from the people of Assam. Meanwhile, the Congress party faces criticism for its apparent delay in candidate selection, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral showdown in the region.
