While interacting with the Bharatiya diaspora in Singapore on Sunday EAM S Jaishankar pointed out that a “terrorist is a terrorist” is any language and by extension, terrorism cannot be allowed or permitted just because of different language or explanation. Jaishankar’s statement came as a response to a query regarding the approach of Bharatiya officials in sensitive and linguistically different topics with global counterparts.
He added that it was natural to have different viewpoints, and that diplomacy is about finding a midway to reach an agreement but, there are certain issues where there can be no room for ambiguity and interpretation.
To explain his stance he took example of ‘terrorism’, saying, “you can take it in any language, but a terrorist is a terrorist in any language.” He said that terrorism could never be allowed to be used as an excuse or defended because it is being conveyed in a different language or using a different explanation.

Jaishankar is currently undertaking an official trip to Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia from March 23 to March 27, 2024. Additionally, he underscored the significance of the India-Singapore relationship during his engagement with the Indian community in Singapore, expressing gratitude for his personal involvement in strengthening these ties.
