In a daring rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) came to the aid of five fishermen stranded at sea when their boat, named Premsagar, began to sink approximately 50 kilometers from Porbandar. The ICG sprang into action following an SOS call, swiftly deploying Ship C-16 from Porbandar after receiving information from the local fisheries community.
Upon arrival at the scene, ICG Ship C-161 wasted no time in launching a rescue and support mission. The skilled team managed to temporarily halt the flooding on the distressed boat and attempted to tow it with the help of another fishing vessel nearby. However, despite their efforts, the Premsagar, already 75 percent flooded, succumbed to the sea just 12 kilometers off the coast of Porbandar.
Fortunately, all five crew members were successfully rescued by the ICG team, who promptly provided them with much-needed medical assistance. The survivors were then safely transported to Porbandar and handed over to the Fisheries Association, marking the successful conclusion of a high-stakes rescue operation.
This heroic feat comes on the heels of another recent rescue mission carried out by the Indian Coast Guard on March 20. On that occasion, the ICG responded to a distress call off the coast of Kundapura in Karnataka, where eight crew members found themselves in peril aboard a flooded boat named IFB Ajmeer-I.
Once again, the Indian Coast Guard demonstrated its unwavering commitment to maritime safety and security by swiftly dispatching Ship Rajdoot to the scene. The crew of IFB Ajmeer-I were reassured and provided with vital de-flooding assistance, ensuring their safety amidst the treacherous conditions.
Following the successful rescue operation, the disabled boat was handed over to another fishing vessel, IFB Goat Fish, for further towing towards Gangoli harbor. With the safety of both the boat and its crew confirmed, the Indian Coast Guard once again underscored its motto of ‘We Protect,’ ensuring that all vessels under its care reach harbor safely.
