In a significant display of cooperation and preparedness, the Sea Phase of Exercise Tiger Triumph 2024 kicked off on Wednesday as Indian Navy and US Navy ships set sail together. This joint endeavor, happening in Visakhapatnam, marks a crucial phase where service members from both nations will undergo diverse training in amphibious operations, including coordinated efforts in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) missions.
Exercise Tiger Triumph 2024, a bilateral, tri-service exercise between India and the United States, is scheduled from March 18 to 31. The event’s opening ceremony, held aboard INS Jalashwa on March 19, set the stage for the intensive training exercises to follow.
Before embarking on the Sea Phase, the Harbour Phase of the exercise took place in Visakhapatnam from March 18 to 25. During this phase, participants engaged in pre-sail discussions, exchanged expertise on professional subjects, and meticulously planned and executed various tasks.
Ahead of the Sea Phase, a pre-sail conference convened in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, focusing on the intricate details of the upcoming operations. Commanders, along with commanding officers from participating units of both the United States Navy and Indian Navy, were present to strategize and coordinate efforts effectively.
Exercise Tiger Triumph 2024 aims to enhance interoperability between the two navies for conducting HADR operations. It also seeks to refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure swift and efficient coordination during crises or emergencies.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Navy’s participation in the exercise encompasses ships with integral helicopters and landing crafts, as well as aircraft from the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Additionally, personnel and vehicles from the Indian Army, along with the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT), will actively take part in the exercises.
The joint efforts in Exercise Tiger Triumph 2024 reflect the commitment of both India and the United States to strengthen military cooperation and readiness. By working hand in hand, the two nations aim to bolster their capabilities in responding effectively to humanitarian crises and safeguarding maritime security in the region.
