Popular Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, known for her roles in films like “Queen,” is gearing up for a new role in the political arena. Ranaut, who is contesting as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, recently held a spirited roadshow in the city in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
During the event, Ranaut was warmly greeted by a large crowd as she waved and interacted with supporters. Expressing pride in representing Mandi, Ranaut emphasized her commitment to serving as a nationalist voice for the constituency.
“The people of Mandi will show what is in their heart,” Ranaut remarked, highlighting the BJP’s focus on development as a key issue in the elections. Supporters echoed their enthusiasm with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as Ranaut addressed the gathering.
However, Ranaut may face stiff competition from Congress state President Pratibha Singh, who has expressed her readiness to contest from the Mandi seat. Singh, who previously won the seat in a bypoll in 2021, stated her willingness to challenge Ranaut if directed by the Congress leadership.
“If they finalise my name, I will go to the field to fight the elections,” Singh affirmed, highlighting her experience as a former MP who has extensively toured the constituency. She added that the decision ultimately rests with the party’s High Command, to whom she has deferred for guidance.
Himachal Pradesh, with its four Lok Sabha seats – Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla, and Kangra, presents a crucial battleground for both the BJP and the Congress. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged victorious in all four seats, underscoring its dominance in the state.
The upcoming elections, scheduled for June 1, will not only decide the fate of the four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh but also feature bypolls for six assembly constituencies vacated due to the disqualification of six rebel Congress MLAs. As the political landscape heats up, all eyes are on Mandi as Kangana Ranaut and Pratibha Singh brace for a showdown in the electoral arena.
