In a tragic incident unfolding in Champaran district of Bihar, a 50-year-old man named Idu Miyan is reportedly on the run after allegedly murdering his wife and three minor daughters. According to police officials, the gruesome crime involved slitting the throats of the victims. The victims were identified as Afreen Khatun, aged 40, and her daughters Arbun Khatun (15), Shabrun Khatun (12), and Shahzadi Khatun (9).
The altercation that led to this horrifying event began on Thursday night when Idu and his wife, Afreen, engaged in a heated argument. Neighbors reported that the dispute stemmed from Idu’s dissatisfaction over Afreen’s supposed “failure to give him a male child.” In a fit of rage during the argument, Idu allegedly attacked Afreen with a sharp weapon before ultimately slitting her throat with a knife.
The bodies of Afreen and her three daughters were discovered on Friday morning by neighbors, lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on their throats. The tragic scene was found when neighbors noticed bloodstains outside the family’s residence.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused, Idu Miyan, who is currently at large. Ranjan Kumar, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Areraj, confirmed that efforts are underway to locate and arrest him.
This isn’t the first time Idu Miyan has been involved in such a horrific crime. In 2017, he was accused of killing another daughter, who was 16 years old at the time, by pushing her off a moving train near Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. For this crime, Idu served a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of murder. He was released on bail in 2022.
Idu Miyan’s marital history reveals that he has been married twice. His first wife, who bore him two sons, passed away some time ago. Afreen was his second wife, with whom he had five daughters, including the victims of this recent tragedy. The whereabouts of the sons and the eldest daughter remain unverified.
The bodies of Afreen and her daughters have been sent for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are determined to bring justice to the victims and their grieving family, as well as to ensure the apprehension of the accused perpetrator, Idu Miyan.
