Indian Navy took swift action to rescue a hijacked Iranian fishing vessel in the Arabian Sea. The operation began after receiving reports of armed pirates boarding the vessel, named ‘Al Kambar 786’. Two Indian Navy warships were immediately diverted towards the vessel’s location, approximately 90 nautical miles southwest of Socotra.
The hijacked vessel, with nine armed pirates on board, was intercepted by the Indian Navy, who swiftly initiated rescue operations. The primary goal is to ensure the safety of the hijacked vessel and its crew.
This successful rescue mission comes as part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing efforts against piracy in the region. In recent times, the navy has been actively involved in anti-piracy operations, responding to distress calls and thwarting piracy attempts in the Arabian Sea.
Just days before this operation, the Indian Navy apprehended 35 Somali pirates and rescued 17 crew members from a hijacked vessel named Ruen. The operation involved elite marine commandos, air-dropped from C-17 aircraft over 1,400 nautical miles from the Indian shores.
Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime security remains unwavering, with more than 10 warships deployed in the region. Over the past 100 days, the navy has conducted numerous maritime security operations, responding to distress calls and ensuring the safety of seafarers.
The navy chief, Admiral R Hari Kumar, emphasized the importance of safeguarding Indian-flagged vessels in the volatile western Indian Ocean region. While conflicts and tensions persist in the area, the Indian Navy remains dedicated to ensuring maritime security and stability.
In the last 100-plus days alone, 21 Indian warships have been deployed, with approximately 5,000 naval personnel at sea. Maritime surveillance aircraft have logged over 900 hours of flying time, supporting the navy’s operations in the region.
With almost 1,000 boarding operations conducted on the high seas, the Indian Navy is actively engaged in maintaining maritime security across three key areas: the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, and the Somali coast. Their efforts underscore their commitment to safeguarding international waters and ensuring the safety of all seafarers.
