In a diplomatic effort to revive their historical ties, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, held extensive discussions with his Bharatiya counterpart, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his two-day visit to Bharat. Describing both countries as “traditional friends,” Kuleba emphasized the need to expand cooperation beyond previous levels, especially in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
During their meeting at Hyderabad House, Kuleba expressed optimism about reinstating the pre-conflict level of collaboration between India and Ukraine. Highlighting the strategic importance of their relationship, he underscored the potential for exploring new avenues of cooperation for mutual benefit and global security.
The discussions centered around the “Peace Formula,” a proposal initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aimed at achieving a just and enduring peace in Ukraine. Kuleba stressed the significance of implementing this formula and deliberated on the next steps in its realization with Jaishankar.
Furthermore, both ministers co-chaired the Ukrainian-Bharatiya intergovernmental commission review meeting, where they affirmed their commitment to restoring the previous level of cooperation and identifying fresh projects to elevate bilateral relations.
Kuleba noted the personal involvement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Zelenskyy in advancing the relationship between Bharat and Ukraine. He highlighted their consistent directives to foreign ministers to strengthen ties, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations towards enhancing bilateral relations.
Bharat’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict remained clear, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means for resolving the crisis. Prime Minister Modi’s recent conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Zelenskyy reiterated India’s support for peace efforts and its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Zelenskyy, appreciating Bharat’s solidarity, expressed the importance of Bharat’s participation in the inaugural Peace Summit in Switzerland. The Ukrainian president acknowledged Bharat’s humanitarian aid and discussed avenues for further collaboration across various domains.
In response to queries regarding Bharat’s position on the peace conference, the Ministry of External Affairs reiterated its support for peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. Bharat remains open to exploring all possibilities conducive to achieving lasting peace in the region.
