President Droupadi Murmu, today, March 30, bestowed the prestigious Bharat Ratna award upon several distinguished individuals, including two former Prime Ministers, posthumously, and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani. The ceremony marked a significant recognition of their outstanding contributions to the nation.
Among the recipients, LK Advani is set to receive the award at his residence tomorrow, March 31. However, four other notable personalities, former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao, renowned agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, were honored posthumously.
Earlier announcements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the achievements and legacies of the awardees. In particular, PM Modi lauded PV Narasimha Rao for his scholarly and statesmanlike endeavors, citing his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic landscape and fostering prosperity during his tenure as Prime Minister. Additionally, Chaudhary Charan Singh’s unwavering commitment to farmer’s rights and welfare earned him heartfelt recognition.
PM Modi also extended his appreciation to MS Swaminathan for his monumental contributions to agriculture and farmer’s welfare. Swaminathan’s pioneering efforts played a vital role in steering India towards self-reliance in agriculture, thus modernizing the sector and enhancing its resilience.
The Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, symbolizes the nation’s gratitude towards individuals whose exceptional achievements have left an indelible mark on the country’s progress and development. Through this honor, their legacies will continue to inspire future generations, embodying the spirit of service and excellence.
