In a significant ceremony on Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the Bharat Ratna upon former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader LK Advani. The prestigious award was presented to Advani at his residence, a decision made in light of his declining health.
This year, the central government announced five recipients of the Bharat Ratna, including the venerable BJP leader. Prime Minister X expressed his delight in the decision, emphasizing Advani’s immense contributions to the nation’s development.
“Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honor. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental,” stated Prime Minister X.
Born in Karachi, present-day Pakistan, on November 8, 1927, Advani has had a distinguished political career, including serving as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party for an extended period since its inception in 1980.
With nearly three decades of parliamentary service, Advani held key positions such as Home Minister and later Deputy Prime Minister under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1999 to 2004.
Advani’s intellectual prowess, unwavering principles, and dedication to India’s prosperity have earned him widespread admiration. Atal Bihari Vajpayee praised Advani’s commitment to nationalism and his ability to adapt political strategies when necessary.
