In a power-packed rally held in Meerut on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The rally witnessed the introduction of actor Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic TV serial ‘Ramayan’, as the BJP’s candidate for the parliamentary constituency.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Prime Minister Modi declared that the groundwork for securing a third term had already commenced. Alongside him stood Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Jayant Chaudhary, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief and grandson of the late Bharat Ratna awardee, Chaudhary Charan Singh.
Chaudhary, reflecting on receiving the Bharat Ratna on behalf of his grandfather, emphasized that the honor truly belonged to the farmers, youth, soldiers, and social workers of the nation. He underscored the importance of the occasion, marking Prime Minister Modi’s immediate engagement following the prestigious ceremony.
Taking the podium, CM Yogi Adityanath launched scathing remarks against the Congress, framing the elections as a choice between prioritizing family or the nation, between ‘mafia raj’ and the rule of law, and between corruption and zero tolerance.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi outlined his vision for India’s future economic prowess, affirming that the country’s ascension to the third-largest economy would eradicate poverty and empower the burgeoning middle class. He highlighted Meerut’s historical significance as a bastion of revolutionaries and pledged to propel the nation further towards development.
Asserting his stance against corruption, Prime Minister Modi reassured the crowd that no corrupt individual, regardless of stature, would escape accountability under his administration. He condemned the disrespect shown to Chaudhary Charan Singh by opposition parties and reiterated his commitment to farmers’ welfare.
Further, he brought attention to the issue of Katchatheevu Island, alleging an “anti-national act” by the Congress in relinquishing India’s territorial claims. Reflecting on his governance achievements, he cited the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, implementation of the One Rank One Pension scheme, and the enactment of the Triple Talaq Act.
The rally served as the BJP’s inaugural event for the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for the second phase on April 26, with Meerut constituting a pivotal battleground. In the previous elections, BJP secured 62 seats, including its ally Apna Dal (S)’s two seats, while Congress claimed the Rae Bareli seat, and the BSP-Samajwadi Party alliance clinched 10 seats.
