Israel’s military carried out an airstrike in Lebanon, targeting Ismail al-Zin, the head of a Hezbollah missile unit. The strike, which took place in the area of Kunin, aimed to eliminate al-Zin, who was a significant commander in Hezbollah’s Anti-Tank Missile Unit. Hezbollah, a militant group supported by Iran, has been engaging in frequent cross-border gunfire with Israel for months.
Hezbollah confirmed al-Zin’s death in a statement but did not specify whether he was a member of the elite Radwan Forces. The border between Israel and Lebanon is approximately six miles from the village of Kunin, where the airstrike occurred.
This operation came just two days after the Israeli military announced the killing of Ali Abdel Hassan Naim, the deputy commander of Hezbollah’s missile force. Naim was reportedly responsible for planning attacks against Israeli civilians. These targeted strikes reflect Israel’s ongoing efforts to combat Hezbollah’s aggressive actions.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant affirmed that the military would continue operations against Hezbollah, vowing to make them pay for every attack originating from Lebanon. The Israeli military has shifted from a defensive posture to actively repelling Hezbollah forces, according to Gallant.
In addition to targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, Israel conducted a strike in Syria, resulting in the deaths of seven Hezbollah fighters. While Israel remained silent on this matter, Gallant reiterated the military’s commitment to confronting Hezbollah wherever they are found.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has resulted in significant casualties and displacement on both sides. In Lebanon, at least 348 people have died due to cross-border fire since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Tens of thousands of individuals have been forced to flee their homes in northern Israel and southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah claims to be attacking Israel in support of Hamas, the Palestinian organization that launched a major offensive against southern Israel. According to Israeli officials, 1,160 people have died in Israel as a result of Hamas’s actions, with the majority being civilians. In Gaza, controlled by Hamas, Israeli retaliatory strikes have claimed the lives of at least 32,782 people, including many women and children, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
