In a determined effort to curb illicit activities, particularly drug peddling, the Special Task Force or STF of Assam Police has ramped up its operations. Since the beginning of 2023, the STF has sprung into action, resulting in the apprehension of 93 individuals involved in various illegal activities.
Remarkably, among the detainees, two individuals have been identified as affiliated with ISIS, with one serving as a supporting associate. The remaining 90 individuals are involved in cases related to drug trafficking and the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes.
Working jointly with other law enforcement agencies, the STF has initiated 85 cases against drug peddlers, spanning numerous police jurisdictions under its purview. Across these cases, a total of 206 suspects have been brought into custody. Notably, one case has been forwarded to the National Investigation Agency or NIA for further scrutiny.
Despite encountering challenges along the way, the STF has shown significant progress in tackling these issues, having already filed chargesheets in three cases. However, the process of adjudicating these cases remains ongoing, highlighting the intricate nature of prosecuting such crimes.
The concerted efforts of the STF reflect the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal activities and uphold the safety and security of the people of Assam.
