Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing its leaders of resorting to threats of arson if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerges victorious in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Kotputli, Modi emphasized the significance of the election in realizing the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) and combating corruption.
Modi highlighted the contrasting priorities of the BJP and the Congress, asserting that while the BJP aims to eradicate corruption and serve the nation, the Congress and its allies pursue their own vested interests. He criticized the Congress for allegedly prioritizing the protection of corrupt individuals instead of rooting out corruption from the country.
The prime minister condemned recent statements by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who warned of widespread unrest if the BJP were to win the elections and amend the Constitution. Modi characterized this rhetoric as an attempt to intimidate the electorate and undermine the democratic process.
In a bid to differentiate his party from the Congress, Modi reiterated the BJP’s commitment to national unity, contrasting it with what he described as the Congress’ tendency to prioritize familial interests over the welfare of the nation. He asserted that the BJP has bolstered Bharat’s global standing, while the Congress has tarnished the country’s image abroad.
Addressing the issue of poverty, Modi squarely blamed the Congress for the persistent economic struggles faced by Bharat post-Independence. He accused the Congress of hindering the nation’s progress by perpetuating poverty and fostering dependence on foreign technology and defense imports.
Highlighting his government’s achievements, Modi emphasized the BJP’s efforts to promote self-reliance in defense production, transforming Bharat from a major arms importer to an emerging exporter in the global arms market. He touted this shift as a testament to the BJP’s commitment to bolstering Bharat’s strategic autonomy and bolstering its defense capabilities.
Rajasthan, a key battleground state, is slated to vote in two phases on April 19 and 26. With the electoral stakes high, Modi’s fiery rhetoric underscores the intense political contestation between the BJP and the Congress as they vie for supremacy in the Lok Sabha elections. The outcome of the elections will have far-reaching implications for the future trajectory of Bharatiya politics and governance.
