The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken legal action against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and minister Atishi. This comes after Atishi accused the BJP of attempting to lure her into defecting to their party through a close aide. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva stated that Atishi’s claims were false and that the BJP has no interest in having her join their ranks.
Sachdeva mentioned that the BJP has issued a defamation notice to Atishi, demanding the name of the person who allegedly approached her. Failure to respond within 15 days may lead to civil and criminal defamation cases. He criticized AAP for fabricating stories of their leaders’ arrests when faced with challenges, stressing that all AAP leaders arrested in the liquor scam have been legally validated.
Atishi had alleged on Tuesday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was planning to arrest her and other AAP leaders – Saurabh Bharadwaj, Durgesh Pathak, and Raghav Chadha. She claimed they were threatened with arrest if they did not join the BJP. Atishi also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of orchestrating a campaign to suppress AAP and its leaders.
In response to Atishi’s allegations, Delhi BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor issued a defamation notice on behalf of the party. Kapoor emphasized that Atishi’s statements were baseless and lacked concrete evidence. He criticized the absence of specific details regarding the alleged contact with the BJP and deemed it a false accusation.
The ongoing dispute highlights the political tension between the BJP and AAP in Delhi. Atishi’s accusations of BJP’s attempts to coerce AAP leaders into joining their party, and BJP’s swift legal response, underscore the rivalry between the two parties. As the situation unfolds, the public awaits further developments in this contentious political saga.
