In a significant development for Mumbai Indians fans, star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit to play in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. According to reports from Express Sports, the explosive batsman has successfully regained match fitness and is poised to feature in Mumbai Indians’ upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals.
Sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have revealed that Yadav’s fitness was rigorously assessed through practice matches before he received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to participate in the lucrative tournament.
“He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games, and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games,” explained the source.
Yadav’s road to recovery hasn’t been easy. Initially ruled out of India’s tour of South Africa due to an ankle injury, his condition worsened as he developed a sports hernia, further delaying his return to the IPL 2024.
“He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness Test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” the source added, highlighting the cautious approach taken by the medical team.
With Yadav’s impending return, Mumbai Indians may have to make strategic adjustments to their playing XI. Speculations suggest that Naman Dhir might be dropped from the squad to accommodate the seasoned batter, adding depth and experience to the team’s lineup.
Yadav’s inclusion is expected to bolster Mumbai Indians’ batting arsenal, providing them with the much-needed firepower in their quest for a sixth IPL title. Fans eagerly anticipate his comeback, hoping for standout performances and match-winning innings in the upcoming fixtures.
