In a dazzling display of power hitting, Kolkata Knight Riders notched up a mammoth total of 272/2 against Delhi Capitals in their recent IPL clash. This score stands as the second-highest in IPL history and the seventh-highest in all T20 cricket. A week prior, Sunrisers Hyderabad set the bar high with their 277/3 against Mumbai Indians.
KKR’s batting onslaught began early, with a blistering 88/1 in the Powerplay overs, marking the fourth-highest Powerplay total in IPL history. This achievement is only second to their own record of 105/0 against RCB in 2017, which remains the highest in IPL history.
At the halfway mark of their innings, KKR had amassed a formidable 135/1, securing the third-highest team score at the ten-over mark in IPL history. However, this milestone was surpassed by the SRH-MI encounter last week, where SRH reached 148/2 by the halfway point.
KKR’s relentless assault saw them reach the 200-run mark in just 15.2 overs, making it the third-quickest team to achieve this feat in IPL history. The fastest entries still belong to RCB and SRH in previous encounters.
With an impressive tally of 40 boundaries (22 fours and 18 sixes), KKR showcased their batting prowess, ranking third in the list of most boundaries scored by a team in an IPL innings. Their 18 sixes also set a new record for the most maximums in an innings by KKR, surpassing their previous best against CSK and Punjab Kings in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Sunil Narine stole the show with his explosive knock of 85 runs, marking his highest score in T20 cricket. This innings surpassed his previous IPL best of 75 runs against Punjab Kings in 2018, coinciding with KKR’s previous highest total of 245/6.
In a historic moment, 18-year-old Angkrish Raghuvanshi made his IPL debut memorable by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century on debut. His innings of 25 balls to reach fifty stands as the second-quickest debut fifty in IPL history, narrowly behind James Hopes’ 24-ball effort in 2008.
KKR’s record-breaking performance against Delhi Capitals solidifies their position as a formidable force in the IPL, sending a clear message to their opponents about their firepower and determination to dominate the tournament.
