Gujarat Titans’ star bowler Umesh Yadav showcased his talent in a recent match against Punjab Kings by securing the opening breakthrough in Punjab Kings’ 200-run chase. He dismissed Punjab Kings’ skipper Shikhar Dhawan for just 1 run in his very first over, surpassing his fellow teammates and other IPL stars in the process.
With this wicket, Umesh Yadav achieved a notable feat in IPL history. He now holds the record for the highest number of wickets by a bowler against a particular side in the league. Dhawan’s dismissal marked Umesh’s 34th wicket against Punjab Kings, surpassing the previous record holders Mohit Sharma, Sunil Narine, and Dwayne Bravo.
Yadav has been a key player in the IPL since 2010, representing five different franchises over the years. He began his IPL career with Delhi Capitals before moving on to Kolkata Knight Riders in two separate stints, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and then back to Delhi Capitals briefly in 2021.
Despite losing his place in the Indian Test team last year, Umesh Yadav has maintained his consistency in the IPL. He has taken 139 wickets in 145 matches so far, with his best season being in 2018 when he claimed 20 wickets in 14 games for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In the recent match against Punjab Kings, Shubman Gill played a stellar innings, remaining unbeaten on 89 runs off just 48 deliveries. Supported by contributions from Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia, Gujarat Titans set a challenging target of 199/4 for Punjab Kings.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans aim to secure their third win in the IPL season and climb up the points table. Currently placed fifth, a win against Punjab Kings would propel them into the top four, enhancing their chances for a successful campaign in the tournament.
