Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prospects in Arunachal Pradesh for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election. He highlighted the achievements of the Modi government over the past decade as key factors contributing to the favorable situation on the ground. Rijiju emphasized the BJP’s strong position in the region, expecting to retain both Lok Sabha seats and achieve a clean sweep in the simultaneous Assembly election.
Rijiju, who has been representing the Arunachal West constituency since 2004, noted the growing confidence of the people in the Modi government. He anticipates surpassing previous electoral performances, citing the BJP’s victory in 2019 where they won both Lok Sabha seats and secured a significant majority in the state Assembly, with 41 out of 60 seats.
In the upcoming election, Rijiju will defend his seat against experienced rival Nabam Tuki, a six-time MLA and former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Despite acknowledging Tuki’s political stature, Rijiju emphasized the favorable situation for the BJP in the state.
Rijiju outlined plans for state development, focusing on infrastructure, skill development, and employment opportunities for the youth. He expressed optimism about Arunachal Pradesh’s economic prospects, foreseeing one of the highest per capita incomes in the country within the next eight to nine years.
Arunachal Pradesh is set to vote on April 19 for both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Results for the parliamentary election will be announced on June 4, with the Assembly election results expected two days earlier.
The BJP aims to capitalize on the momentum gained from their previous electoral successes in the state, banking on the popularity of the Modi government and their plans for economic growth and development in Arunachal Pradesh.
