In Tripura, as many as 8,000 people have opted for home voting scheduled for April 10 and 12. In the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, home voting will take place on April 17 and 18. Subsequently, officials in West Tripura and Ramnagar are currently undergoing specialised training.

In addition to Lok Sabha elections on April 19 for the West Parliamentary Seat and April 26 for the East (ST) Parliamentary Seat, a by-election in the 7-Ramnagar Assembly Constituency is slated for April 19.

According to reports, voters aged 85 and above, as well as those with disabilities or PWD, will commence voting from April 10, in West Tripura and the 7-Ramnagar by-election. Special arrangements, including volunteers, wheelchairs, and transportation services, will be provided at polling stations to ensure accessibility for elderly and disabled individuals.

The initiative spearheaded by West Tripura District Election Officer or DEO and Returning Officer or RO Vishal Kumar aims to ensure the participation of every eligible voter in the electoral process, aligning with the Election Commission of India’s commitment to inclusivity.

Outlining the significance of this initiative, Kumar reiterated the importance of every vote and stressed upon the need to eliminate barriers hindering vulnerable demographics from exercising their right to vote.

Tripura’s Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal commended the home voting initiative as a vital step toward enhancing voter turnout. He cited the successful implementation of home voting in previous elections, noting a significant preference among voters in both West and East Tripura constituencies to cast their votes from their residences.
