The Bharatiya Janata Party made a significant announcement on April 10, revealing Sanjay Tandon as their candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Chandigarh constituency. Tandon replaces Kirron Kher, the incumbent MP.
Sanjay Tandon, formerly the BJP’s Chandigarh president and currently serving as the party’s co-incharge for Himachal Pradesh, brings with him a notable political background. He is the son of the late Balramji Das Tandon, who served as the Governor of Chhattisgarh.
The election for the solitary Lok Sabha seat in Chandigarh is scheduled for June 1, coinciding with Punjab’s elections.
Kirron Kher, known for her transition from acting to politics, secured victory in the Chandigarh constituency in both 2014 and 2019. However, the BJP’s decision to field Tandon marks a shift in candidacy.
Addressing the media, Tandon expressed his commitment to advancing Chandigarh’s development initiatives. He pledged to continue the work initiated by Kirron Kher and assured the residents of his dedication to serving them diligently. Tandon emphasized his longstanding connection with the people of Chandigarh over the past four decades, vowing to serve them as a trusted family member.
In the electoral landscape of Chandigarh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have formed an alliance known as the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). As part of their seat-sharing agreement, the Congress will nominate its candidate for the constituency, adding further intrigue to the upcoming electoral contest.
