On Thursday, April 11th, Rohan Gupta, a former Congress leader, made headlines as he joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Gupta cited “constant humiliation” and “character assassination” by a Congress leader associated with the party’s communication department as reasons for his departure. He expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment he received within Congress, leading to his decision to switch parties.

Gupta didn’t hold back in his criticism, accusing Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh of instructing party workers to remain silent during instances where he felt Sanatan Dharma was insulted, including during the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony. He also took aim at the I.N.D.I.A. Alliance, labeling it as harboring “antinational elements” despite its name being based on the country.

His departure from the Congress was marked by a scathing critique of the party’s alliances and support decisions, particularly questioning its backing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, whom the Congress had accused of having connections with Khalistani groups.
Gupta’s move to the BJP was formalized in the presence of Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri and the party’s national general secretary Vinod Tawde. His alignment with the BJP signals his readiness to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed Bharat by 2047.
This shift in allegiance comes on the heels of Gupta’s resignation from the Congress last month, during which he withdrew his candidature from the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha constituency. His decision was influenced by personal reasons, including his father’s serious health condition, which Gupta had publicly expressed concern about earlier.

Gupta’s departure from the Congress adds to a growing list of prominent leaders exiting the party to join the BJP, including Milind Deora, Ashok Chavan, Gourav Vallabh, and Naveen Jindal. This trend underscores the political landscape’s dynamic nature, with leaders making strategic moves to align themselves with parties they believe can best serve their interests and ambitions.
