In a harrowing incident that shook the community of Mahendragarh, Haryana, three individuals, including the school principal and the driver of a private bus, have been apprehended by the police in connection with a fatal road accident resulting in the deaths of six children.
The tragic event unfolded near Unhani village in Kanina at approximately 8:30 am on Thursday, as a private bus carrying 40 children met with an accident. Among the victims identified are Satyam, Yuvraj, Vansh, Ricky, Anshu, and Yakush. The police report indicates that the driver, Dharmender, was allegedly driving recklessly before losing control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a tree and overturn, resulting in injuries to 20 children.
Further investigations revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, leading to his immediate arrest. Additionally, principal Deepti and school official Hoshiar Singh were also apprehended by authorities.
Disturbing accounts emerged from witnesses and students on board the bus, with some alleging that the driver ignored requests to slow down and even threatened passengers. Moreover, the absence of a helper on the bus exacerbated the situation, leaving students vulnerable in the aftermath of the collision.
As the nation mourns the loss of young lives, political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have extended condolences to the bereaved families. Furthermore, leaders from various political parties, including BJP chief J P Nadda, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, among others, expressed their grief over the tragic incident.
In response to the calamity, Haryana’s education minister Seema Trikha has demanded an explanation from the school regarding the decision to call students to the premises on a holiday due to Eid. Additionally, the Mahendragarh administration has taken swift action by suspending an assistant secretary and initiating a probe to ascertain accountability for the accident.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act in connection with the incident, highlighting the severity of the situation and the need for swift justice for the victims and their families.
