Iran launched a significant attack on Israel over the weekend, firing over 200 projectiles including drones and missiles. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel had long been prepared for such a direct assault from Iran, both defensively and offensively. He assured the public that Israel’s defense systems were deployed and ready for any scenario.
Many of Iran’s projectiles were intercepted by Israel’s defense systems, with additional support from US and UK airplanes. Jordan also took action by shooting down drones that violated its airspace.
Netanyahu commended the United States for its support, emphasizing Israel’s stance that whoever harms them will face retaliation. He urged citizens to follow the directives of the IDF Home Front Command and assured them that Israel stands strong with God’s help.
The conflict escalated following an alleged Israeli strike on a consular compound in Damascus, which resulted in casualties including two Iranian generals. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) retaliated, warning of more severe consequences if Israel were to make another mistake. They also cautioned the United States to stay out of the conflict.
Netanyahu discussed the situation with US President Joe Biden, with the US reaffirming its commitment to support Israel’s security and offering assistance to bolster its defense against Iran.
Israel’s military spokesperson confirmed that Iran launched dozens of ground-to-ground missiles, most of which were intercepted outside Israel’s borders. Israel’s Channel 12 TV reported that there would be a significant response to the attack, indicating ongoing tensions between the two nations.
