Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz has pledged that Israel will retaliate against Iran for its recent missile and drone attack. Speaking on Sunday, Gantz emphasized that Israel would ensure a price is paid by Iran at the appropriate time and in the manner that best suits Israel’s interests.
“We will build a regional coalition and exact the price from Iran in the fashion and timing that is right for us,” Gantz declared ahead of a meeting with Israel’s war cabinet to discuss the country’s response to Iran’s aggression.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated on the same day that Tehran had informed the United States that its attacks on Israel were “limited” and conducted in “self-defense.” This announcement followed condemnation from Western nations, including the US, which called for de-escalation in the region.
The tension between Iran and Israel escalated after Iran launched over 300 missiles towards Israel, just days after warning of retaliation for an attack on its embassy in Syria on April 1. Israel asserted that it successfully intercepted the majority of the missiles, with only minor damage reported at one of its air bases.
Western nations, led by the US, condemned Iran’s aggressive actions and expressed solidarity with Israel. They reiterated their commitment to safeguarding Israel’s territory while urging both sides to work towards de-escalation and avoiding further conflict.
The recent exchange of hostilities between Iran and Israel has heightened concerns about stability in the region. Many fear that continued escalation could lead to further violence and instability, prompting calls for diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions and promote dialogue between the two adversaries.
Israel’s determination to respond to Iran’s aggression underscores the complexities of the geopolitical landscape in the Middle East. As both countries navigate heightened tensions, the international community watches closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to avoid further conflict and instability in the region.
