Germany’s Ambassador to Bharat, Philipp Ackermann, expressed admiration for Bharat’s upcoming Lok Sabha elections, emphasizing the country’s growing presence on the international stage. Speaking at an event hosted by a leading private university, Ackermann highlighted Bharat’s importance in global affairs, citing its recent Presidency of the G20 as evidence of its expanding impact and influence.
Amidst global challenges such as the Iran-Israel conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war, Ackermann underscored Bharat’s rising prominence and democratic values showcased in the upcoming elections. He described the elections as a ‘festival of democracy’ and expressed Germany’s admiration for Bharat’s democratic process.
Regardless of the results of election, Ackermann predicted that Bharat’s role in global affairs would continue to strengthen, stating, “India claims a seat at the big table, and we, Germans and Europeans, think rightfully so.” He further emphasized the importance of Bharat’s visibility and recognition in international forums like the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Bharat’s yearlong Presidency of the G20, which began on December 1, 2022, culminated in the successful New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit last September. The theme, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, endorsed by all member nations which reflected Bharat’s commitment to global cooperation.
The German ambassador praised Bharat’s role as the G20 President, describing it as a position “India deserves” due to its significance on the global stage. He acknowledged that with this role comes high expectations, as Bharat’s international appearance and policies will be closely scrutinized by various countries.
Acknowledging Bharat’s growing influence, Ackermann noted that many governments, including the German government, are reaching out to Bharat, expecting it to play a bigger role in international politics. However, he also highlighted the challenges Bharat may have face in navigating different expectations from countries like Russia and the United States.
The event, hosted by the OP Jindal Global University, focused on the partnership between Bharat and Europe in a multipolar world. Ackermann emphasized the importance of developing a strong partnership between Bharat and Europe, including Germany, to maintain the international rules-based order.
Ackermann’s positive remarks over Bharat underscored Germany’s admiration for Bharat’s democratic process and its evolving role on the global stage. As Bharat prepares for its upcoming elections, the international community watches with interest, recognizing Bharat’s growing significance in shaping global affairs.
