As the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections kicked off today, spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev exercised his franchise, emphasizing the importance of participation in the democratic process. Simultaneously, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin cast his vote in Alwarpet, Chennai, encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to engage in the electoral process actively.
The electoral event spans 21 states and Union Territories, encompassing 102 parliamentary constituencies. In Tamil Nadu alone, all 39 seats are up for contention in this initial phase.
In the 2019 general elections, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance swept Tamil Nadu, clinching an overwhelming victory in 38 out of 39 seats.
The voting process will continue until 6 pm, with an estimated 8.4 crore male voters, 8.23 crore female voters, and 11,371 third-gender electors eligible to cast their votes in this phase, according to data from the Election Commission of India.
Looking ahead, the subsequent phases of the election are scheduled for April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, respectively.
The electoral battleground encompasses various states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
