Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered sharp criticism directed at PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday evening, dismissing their forecasts of turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. Shah asserted that the present state of affairs in the union territory contradicts their ominous predictions, emphasizing the absence of unrest in the region.
Addressing the issue, Shah highlighted past assertions by Mufti and Rahul Gandhi, recalling their warnings of a potential bloodbath in Kashmir post the removal of Article 370. He remarked, “In Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti and Rahul Baba used to say there would be bloodbath here once Article 370 is removed… Rahul Baba, five years have passed. This is the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Leave alone the talk of the bloodbath, no one has the guts to throw a stone there,” as reported by ANI.
The revocation of Article 370 by the Central government in 2019, along with the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two union territories, marked a significant constitutional amendment pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir.
In a subsequent interview with NDTV, Amit Shah addressed opposition allegations regarding potential changes to the Constitution if the BJP secures power in the upcoming elections. He refuted these claims, asserting the BJP’s track record of responsible governance over the past decade, juxtaposing it with allegations of misuse of power during Congress rule.
Furthermore, Shah affirmed the BJP’s unwavering commitment to providing reservations for marginalized communities, dispelling any speculation to the contrary.
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s accusation of BJP soliciting donations through bonds, Shah highlighted similar practices by opposition parties, challenging the characterization of such transactions as extortion. He urged transparency from all political actors in financial dealings.
