Amid much anticipation of the BJP gaining ground in opposition-ruled Tamil Nadu, the first phase of the Lok sabha elections 2024 also tested the party’s ambition to emerge as a significant force challenging Dravidian parties in the state. It will be interesting to observe whether BJP’s State Chief Annamalai can substantiate his claim that this time his party will witness a definite increase in vote share. As Tamil Nadu has been at the centre of the BJP’s southern push in a bid to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘400 paar’ goal, the elections to the state will surely be closely watched.
