In an interview with Asianet News, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the enhanced efficiency of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) since 2014. He backed his claim with statistics, emphasizing that before 2014, the ED filed fewer than 1,800 cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
However, this number surged to over 5,000 after the NDA government came to power. PM Modi cited this increase as evidence of the agency’s improved effectiveness.
Moreover, PM Modi highlighted a significant rise in the number of searches conducted by the ED. Before 2014, there were only 84 searches, but this figure escalated to 7,000 after his government assumed office. These figures, according to PM Modi, demonstrate the heightened operational capabilities of the ED under the current administration.
Addressing allegations of political bias, PM Modi clarified that only a small fraction, approximately three percent, of the corruption cases pursued by the ED involve individuals associated with politics.
He underscored the importance of allowing investigative agencies to function independently, free from political interference, in order to combat corruption effectively.
Switching gears to the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi characterized them as critical due to the nation’s experience with stable governance after enduring decades of instability. He asserted that past unstable governments had inflicted significant harm on the nation, making the current elections crucial as voters reflect on their experiences.
PM Modi emphasized that the 2024 elections are not merely about the BJP or himself but rather an initiative driven by the people’s aspirations.
Reflecting on his tenure since 2014, he reiterated his commitment to serving the nation, emphasizing that his role as Prime Minister is centered on fulfilling the expectations of the people.
Additionally, PM Modi criticized previous administrations for neglecting to strengthen Bharat’s ties with West Asian countries. He noted a shift from a transactional relationship to one focused on comprehensive development, highlighting his government’s efforts to foster deeper connections with nations in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interview covered various aspects, including the improved efficiency of the Enforcement Directorate. Along with this- the significance of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and the government’s endeavors to strengthen diplomatic relations with West Asian countries.
