On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti by inaugurating the 2550th Bhagwan Mahaveer Nirvan Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
During the event, he revealed a commemorative stamp and coin to honor the occasion. Addressing the audience, PM Modi emphasized the importance of upholding the values of Bhagwan Mahaveer, particularly highlighting the commitment of the youth towards these values.
PM Modi spoke about the challenges Bharat has faced, including corruption and poverty, and highlighted the progress made in lifting millions out of poverty.
He emphasized the significance of celebrating the 2550th Bhagwan Mahaveer Nirvan Mahotsav, which coincides with significant national events such as the 75th year of the Constitution and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Modi praised Bharat’s enduring civilization and its role as a symbol of peace and spirituality globally.
Taking a dig at the opposition, PM Modi recalled the despair prevailing in the country a decade ago and asserted that Bharat has since progressed positively.
He commended the dedication and commitment of the youth towards the values of Bhagwan Mahaveer as a positive sign for the nation’s progress.
PM Modi also highlighted the relevance of Jain doctrines such as Anekantavada and Syadvada in addressing contemporary global conflicts. He emphasized Bharat’s role in advocating principles of truth and non-violence on the global stage, positioning Bharat as a ‘Vishwa Bandhu’ (friend of the world) in a divided world.
Addressing issues like corruption and poverty, Modi stressed the importance of reinforcing ideals like non-stealing and non-violence in society. He assured continued efforts in this direction and sought support from revered saints to strengthen Bharat’s development resolve.
Modi cited initiatives like ‘Mission LiFE’ for tackling climate change and the vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ as examples of Bharat’s leadership in global movements. He reiterated Bharat’s ethos of thinking beyond self-interest and emphasized the country’s commitment to global solutions.
The event was attended by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and other dignitaries, along with saints from the Jain community, making it a significant gathering celebrating the timeless values of Bhagwan Mahaveer.
