Bharat’s batting legend, known as the God of cricket, celebrates his 51st birthday on Wednesday. In 1989, 16-year-old Sachin Tendulkar became the youngest Bharatiya cricketer to play in an international match, he became a cricketer who went on to rewrite many batting records in his name, including the first to score 100 international centuries.
Tendulkar finished his career with 18, 426 runs in ODIs and 15,921 runs in Tests, fulfilled his dream of winning the World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Of his 100 international centuries, 51 came in Tests and 49 in ODIs. He quit playing ODI cricket in 2012 and a year later, in November 2013, retired from all forms of cricket after playing his 200th Test.
He entertained the cricket world in 664 international appearances and put up a mountain of 34,357 runs at the world stage.
Tendulkar has played the most number of matches in international cricket. He has represented Bharat in 664 matches across formats. He has registered a total of 34, 347 runs and it is also a record. He is the only batter in history to score 100 international centuries.
He has played the most matches in World Cups (45) as well as scored the most runs overall in the multi-nation tournament (2278 runs). On February 24, 2010, in an ODI against South Africa in Gwalior, Tendulkar became the first batsman ever to score a double hundred in ODIs.
