Bharat’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, recently shed light on the growing influence of short videos, known as ‘reels’, stating that they have significantly influenced awareness and interest in various subjects across all age groups.
Speaking at a book launch event in Delhi, Jaishankar emphasized the widespread adoption of reel culture, highlighting its role in promoting awareness and expressing aspirations among individuals.
Jaishankar noted the unique nature of reel culture, characterized by the creation and dissemination of short video snippets ranging from one to two minutes. He underscored its ability to reflect a sense of pride and express aspirations, particularly among the younger generation, commonly referred to as Gen Z.
Despite initially being associated with Gen Z, Jaishankar pointed out that reel culture has permeated across all demographics, including older age groups.
The minister’s remarks come amidst observations of a broader societal shift towards embracing reel culture, with individuals from diverse age groups demonstrating interest, knowledge, and understanding of topics they may not have engaged with previously.
Jaishankar highlighted the impact of reel culture during his visits to various towns and villages, where he encountered a notable increase in people’s interest in foreign policy matters.
Jaishankar shared his experience of engaging with citizens during the BJP’s election campaign, revealing a influential interest in foreign policy among individuals residing in second and third-tier towns all over Bharat. He emphasized the growing resonance of foreign policy as a political issue, with people recognizing its significance and considering it as a factor in their decision-making process.
The minister’s observations underscore the evolving landscape of information consumption and engagement in contemporary Bharat, where digital platforms like social media, particularly those featuring short-form video content, play a significant role in shaping public discourse and awareness.
