Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna, reiterated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) nationally.
He stated that if the BJP is re-elected for a third term, they will implement the UCC across the nation, following the example set by Uttarakhand where the UCC has been introduced. Shah emphasized that the UCC aligns with the fundamental principles of the Constitution.
Shah lauded Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for his dedication to development and highlighted the developmental projects in the region. He urged voters to support Scindia, asserting that a vote for him is a vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, Shah took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of advocating for the reinstatement of personal laws that he claimed favor specific religious communities.
He criticized the Congress manifesto’s stance on personal laws, alleging that it aims to reintroduce Muslim personal law and triple talaq, which have been contentious issues in India. Shah vowed that the BJP would not allow such laws to be implemented.
In contrast to the Congress, which Shah accused of prioritizing certain communities over others, he reiterated the BJP’s commitment to prioritizing the rights of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
He highlighted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s previous statement about prioritizing resources for minorities, including Muslims, and suggested that the Congress intended to redistribute public wealth to Muslim communities.
Shah emphasized that under BJP rule, tribals, Dalits, and OBCs have been given priority in resource allocation. He criticized the Congress for allegedly neglecting the recommendations of the Mandal Commission and failing to establish an OBC commission.
Shah highlighted Modi’s efforts in forming the OBC Commission and providing reservations for OBCs in medical colleges.
The implementation of the UCC has been a longstanding ideological promise of the BJP, aimed at establishing a common set of laws governing personal matters for all citizens.
Despite facing legal challenges and opposition from certain groups, the BJP remains steadfast in its commitment to implementing the UCC nationwide if re-elected.
