Phase 2 of Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Over 60% Voter Participation Across 13 States and UTs by 5pm

As of 5:00 PM, a notable 60.7% voter turnout has been recorded across the 13 states and union territories.

Voting for 88 constituencies in the second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections spanning across 13 states and union territories commenced today. With over 1,200 candidates in the fray, including 4 contestants from Outer Manipur, the electoral battle is underway.

As of 5:00 PM, a notable 60.7% voter turnout has been recorded across the 13 states and union territories. States like Manipur, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura have witnessed over 70% voter participation, whereas Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra registered comparatively lower turnouts at 52.6%, 53%, and 53.5% respectively.

Tomorrow, polling is slated for all 20 seats in Kerala, 14 of the 28 seats in Karnataka, 13 seats in Rajasthan, and various other constituencies across states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Key contestants in this phase include Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP’s Tejasvi Surya, renowned actors Hema Malini and Arun Govil, along with political figures like Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, DK Suresh, and HD Kumaraswamy.

In the previous elections of 2019, the NDA secured victory in 56 out of the 89 seats, while the UPA clinched 24. Notably, six of these constituencies have undergone redrawing due to the delimitation exercise.

This phase marks the continuation of the electoral process, following the first phase held last Friday, encompassing 102 seats across 21 states and union territories, which saw a turnout of approximately 65.5%. Stay tuned for further developments in this crucial democratic exercise.

As of 5:00 PM in the second phase of the Loksabha Election 2024, the following voting percentages have been reported across various states and one union territory:

– Assam: 70.66%
– Bihar: 52.63%
– Chhattisgarh: 72.13%
– Jammu and Kashmir: 67.22%
– Karnataka: 63.90%
– Kerala: 63.97%
– Madhya Pradesh: 54.42%
– Maharashtra: 53.51%
– Manipur: 76.06%
– Rajasthan: 59.19%
– Tripura: 76.23%
– Uttar Pradesh: 52.64%
– West Bengal: 71.84%
