Bharat has emphasized the critical need for a “zero-tolerance approach” towards terrorism in all its forms during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane voiced Bharat’s stance, highlighting the importance of combating terrorism for the prosperity and development of SCO member states.
Aramane participated in the meeting where a protocol was signed by the defence ministers of all SCO member states. Following the discussions, a Joint Communique was issued, outlining various initiatives.
Notably, the ministers agreed to develop the concept of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, which draws from the ancient Bharatiya philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
In the statement released after the meeting, Aramane reiterated Bharat’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security in the SCO region. He stressed the imperative of adopting a zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism, underscoring its detrimental impact on the prosperity and development of SCO nations.
Aramane also brought attention to Bharat’s persistent advocacy for the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations. This proposal underscores Bharat’s proactive approach to address the global menace of terrorism through coordinated international efforts.
Moreover, the defence secretary highlighted Bharat’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), particularly in the Indo-Pacific.
SAGAR aims to promote security and economic growth in the region, reflecting Bharat’s commitment to fostering stability and prosperity through inclusive and cooperative measures.
Bharat’s participation and contributions to the SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting signal its proactive engagement in regional and global security issues.
By advocating for a united front against terrorism and promoting initiatives like SAGAR, Bharat reaffirms its commitment to fostering peace, stability, and development in the SCO region and beyond.
