An 18-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, Dinabondhu Middya, was discovered deceased in Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal, on Friday, April 26th, according to the state police.
Middya’s body was found in a betel-leaf farm in Goramahal village, Mayna area, with signs of suspicious circumstances. Reports indicate that while his body was hanging, parts of it were touching the ground, and there were visible injury marks.
Middya’s family has accused leaders of the ruling party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), of kidnapping and murdering him. His mother, Henarani Middya, stated, “My son was missing since Wednesday. We were being threatened by a few members of the TMC for quite some time. I am sure that my son was murdered by them.” She named specific TMC leaders and demanded a CBI investigation into her son’s alleged murder.
The Bengal Police initiated a search for Middya upon receiving a missing person’s complaint. Utilizing his mobile tower location, they located his body. The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Responding to the incident, the BJP labeled TMC as a “Talibani Party” and accused them of resorting to cruel means to silence opposition voices.
BJP MP Locket Chatterjee condemned the murder and accused TMC members of committing the crime, echoing sentiments that TMC’s tactics resemble those of the Taliban.
The barbaric murder of Dinabandhu Midya, son of Sudarshan Midya, a dedicated BJP worker, by TMC goons is an appalling act of cowardice!
TMC's Talibani tactics of silencing opposition voices with brutality must be vehemently opposed. #TMCMurderers #JusticeForDinabandhu https://t.co/Qt9DPWRK85

Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, alleged an escalation of violence by TMC, particularly as they face electoral setbacks.
One more gruesome crime. The more TMC is losing ground electorally, the more they are turning violent.

He called for a CBI investigation, expressing concerns that the state police might tamper with evidence. Adhikari pledged support, both legal and otherwise, to Middya’s family.
Responding to the allegations, TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed denied any involvement of TMC leaders in Middya’s death.
However, the incident adds to the ongoing narrative of political violence in West Bengal, especially during pre- and post-election periods, with the ruling party often accused of intimidating opposition parties.
