In the wake of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) recent recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in Sandeshkhali, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda launched a scathing critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Expressing grave concern over what he described as “anarchy” propagated by Banerjee’s regime, Nadda highlighted the endangerment of women’s safety.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Nadda denounced the alleged role of TMC members, particularly Sheikh Shahjahan, in jeopardizing the security of women in Sandeshkhali. He lambasted the reported attack on investigating agency officials deployed to safeguard the dignity of women in the area.
During the recovery operation in Sandeshkhali, the CBI unearthed a significant arsenal, including three foreign-made revolvers, one police-issue revolver, a foreign pistol, and assorted ammunition. Nadda emphasized the necessity for National Security Guards (NSG) intervention to ensure the protection of the local populace.
Asserting the purported spread of lawlessness under Banerjee’s governance, Nadda forecasted electoral repercussions, confidently predicting BJP’s victory in more than 35 seats in the forthcoming West Bengal elections. Earlier, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the Bengal Assembly, had demanded the designation of TMC as a “terrorist organization.”
This development follows the CBI’s discovery of arms and ammunition in Sandeshkhali, believed to be linked to a previous attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in January. The assault, allegedly orchestrated by now-suspended TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, prompted the retrieval of incriminating evidence, including weaponry and documents, during the recent operation.
The coordinated effort involved multiple agencies, including the CBI, bomb squad, NSG, central paramilitary forces, and the West Bengal Police, underscoring the severity of the situation and the concerted response required to address it.
