In a remarkable story of transformation, Barpeta district in Assam has emerged as a symbol of progress, driven by the visionary policies of the State Government. From healthcare to education and social welfare, Barpeta is witnessing a surge in development like never before.
Taking to the social media, the official X handle of Assam Chief Minister shared pictures of data and wrote, “Barpeta has emerged as an aspirational district, making significant strides in its developmental pursuits under the progressive policies of the Assam Government. Here’s a summary of the district’s ongoing progress.”
Under the strategic initiatives of the Assam Government, Barpeta’s healthcare sector has witnessed a noteworthy growth. With the construction of a Medical College, 49 Primary Health Centres, 12 Community Health Centres, 262 Sub-Centres, along with a Sub Divisional Hospital and a District Hospital, the district now boasts a strong healthcare infrastructure. This development ensures that every resident has access to quality healthcare, marking a significant step towards achieving healthcare equality and inclusivity.
Education, another cornerstone of development, has received ample amount of attention in Barpeta. With a total of 1,775 educational institutions, including 1221 primary schools, 308 upper primary schools, 178 secondary schools, 46 higher secondary schools, and 22 colleges, the district is creating an environment conducive for learning and academic brilliance to empower the youth and form a knowledge-driven society.
Besides, numerous social welfare schemes have been initiated with an objective of betterment of the disadvantaged sections of society. The district has witnessed commendable outcomes in schemes such as the National Food Security Act (NFSA), with 13,36,935 beneficiaries, and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), benefiting 11,72,267 individuals. Moreover, initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and PM SVANidhi have witnessed impressive implementation rates, reflecting the efficacy of government interventions in addressing housing and livelihood challenges.
Barpeta’s journey towards development is highlighted by its commitment to empowering communities at the grassroots level. With a high percentage of Self-Help Group (SHG) beneficiaries, successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and widespread coverage of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) and schools, the district is fostering social cohesion and economic resilience.
