Amidst heavy rainfall during an election campaign in Kokrajhar, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma showcased his spirited camaraderie by dancing to the tune of ‘Modi Sarkaar’ alongside his supporters. The enthusiastic display of support occurred during his visit to strengthen the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.
Sharing his gratitude for the overwhelming response despite the inclement weather, CM Himanta took to social media to express his appreciation. “Deeply humbled to witness the massive support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kokrajhar LS today, despite heavy rains,” he remarked in a post, alongside a video of the lively dance. The CM highlighted the significant turnout of BJP and NDA supporters, contrasting it with the perceived disarray among the Opposition.
This exuberant interaction wasn’t limited to Kokrajhar alone, as CM Himanta was also spotted joining the festivities during a public gathering in Chirang.
As the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 progress, Assam has witnessed two phases of polling, with the next phase scheduled for May 7. The constituencies of Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Barpeta, and Guwahati are slated for polling in the third phase.
In the recent second phase of polling on April 26, Assam recorded an impressive 81.17 per cent voter turnout across five constituencies. The highest turnout was reported in Nagaon, with 84.97 per cent, followed closely by Darrang-Udalguri at 82.01 per cent.
Reflecting on the political scenario, the BJP is contesting on 11 out of the 14 seats in Assam, sharing two seats with ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and one with United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). This shift in alliances has been notable, with the BJP ending its previous partnership with the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and forging new ties with UPPL.
In the context of past elections, the BJP’s presence in Assam has been significant, securing a considerable share of seats in both 2014 and 2019. As the State gears up for further electoral proceedings, the political dynamics continue to evolve, with each party vying for supremacy amidst changing alliances and voter sentiments.
