In an interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress-led Opposition, blaming them for a decline in Bharat’s economic growth during the UPA regime.
He highlighted that under former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s leadership, Bharat’s per capita GDP significantly increased from 1998 to 2004. However, he lamented that the subsequent UPA government brought it down, making Bharat poorer than other developing countries.
During the interview with Network18 Group, News18 Kannada, and News18 Lokmat, PM Modi emphasized the contrast between the economic performances of different governments.
He asserted that Bharat’s income grew faster after his government came into power in 2014, with the per capita GDP rising to 37% by 2019 and further to 42% by 2024.

PM Modi attributed this economic growth to the concerted efforts of his government and claimed that the inflation rate during his tenure has been the lowest in a decade. He expressed his determination to continue working towards further progress, stating, “I want to move very fast, taking the country along with me.”
Highlighting the transformation of Bharat’s economy, PM Modi mentioned that Bharat, once labeled as part of the “Fragile 5” by economists, has now emerged as a vibrant economy. He cited an IMF analysis grouping Bharat with other developing countries, indicating significant progress in economic development.
The Prime Minister also underscored the government’s focus on welfare programs, emphasizing last-mile delivery as a key priority.
He also mentioned that his administration goals to continue its efforts in the same direction, with plans to build three crore more houses and expand the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, the world’s largest health insurance scheme, to cover 55 crore people.
PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment to working diligently for the betterment of the nation. He emphasized the importance of proactive governance and expressed optimism about the future trajectory of Bharat’s economic growth and welfare programs under his leadership.
