The Indian Coast Guard on Sunday seized a Pakistani boat with 14 crew members along with a massive 86 kg of Drugs worth Rs 600 crore off the Porbandar coast in Gujarat.
According to officials, the ATS received a tip-off about a boat named ‘Alraza’, which took off from the Karachi harbor and was meant to be delivered to some unidentified handlers in Tamil Nadu, from where it was to be smuggled to Sri Lanka for final delivery.
The drugs were seized during ICG mid-sea joint operation with the Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at Porbandar, where the boat was intercepted on its way to Sri Lanka via Tamil Nadu.
Initially, the Pakistani nationals reportedly attempted to escape by trying to drive their boat over ATS officials, however, it prompted the ICG and ATS officials to fire at the captain of the trawler – Nazir Hussain who sustained injuries.
In a major breakthrough, over the past two years, the NCB has collaborated with the Indian Navy on three significant operations in the Indian Ocean.
Earlier, in May 2023, the NCB intercepted a ship from Pakistan in the Indian Ocean, seizing at least 2,500 kg of drugs valued at ₹12,000 crore. This interception prevented the drugs from reaching cartels in Bharat, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
