Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a strong statement against the idea of providing reservations based on religion. He stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposes such measures, emphasizing that they support reservation benefits for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities.
Speaking to the media at the Gorakhnath temple complex, CM Yogi highlighted his concerns about the agenda put forward by the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), and the INDIA bloc.
He argued that their proposal for religious-based reservation could undermine the constitutional framework and encroach upon the existing reservation meant for backward and scheduled castes.
Yogi Adityanath later accused the Congress of a history of undermining the Constitution, particularly the work of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
CM Yogi criticized the Congress for attempting to manipulate the Constitution for its own ends since its adoption in 1950, citing instances where fundamental freedoms like freedom of expression were disregarded. He pointed out the Congress’s past actions during the Emergency period and its attempts to manipulate reservation policies during the UPA government.
Chief Minister mentioned initiatives like the Justice Ranganath Mishra Committee and Sachar Committee, which, according to him, aimed to deprive SC, ST, and OBC communities of their rights by introducing reservations based on religion.
Yogi Adityanath emphasized the BJP’s opposition to such moves, stating that the party has consistently thwarted attempts to introduce religion-based reservations nationally. He cited instances where the BJP’s opposition prevented the Congress from encroaching upon OBC and SC-ST reservations.
CM Yogi also shed light on the recent developments in Karnataka, where the Congress government allegedly initiated religious-based reservations, leading to scrutiny from the Election Commission.
He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to respecting the Constitution and fulfilling its obligations in accordance with the vision of its framers, especially Dr. Ambedkar.
Responding to the questions about the state of leadership within the Congress, Yogi Adityanath criticized the party’s leadership, citing instances of candidates withdrawing from electoral contests and state presidents resigning.
He claimed that such actions reflect a lack of trust in Congress leadership even among its own members.
Yogi Adityanath asserted that the public is aware of the true nature of leaders within the Congress, SP, and the INDIA bloc, and they will not allow their agendas to succeed. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to upholding the values and ideals of Dr. Ambedkar and ensuring that reservation benefits reach the intended communities without any religious bias.
